Main Ingredient
  • Beans (finely chopped) - 250 g
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Paste: Grind the following very coarsely.

  • Coconut (grated) - 3 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 pinch
  • Garlic - 1 small clove
  • Green chillie - 1
  • Turneric pd - 1pinch

Garnish:

  • Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 pinch
  • Curry leaves - 1 stalk
  • small onion - 1
  • dry red chilli - 1
Methods/steps
  1. Heat coconut oil in a kadai. Add the above ingredients for garnishing.
  2. When it starts to splutter, add the finely chopped beans and cook in a low flame until tender.
  3. Now add the ground coconut masala mixture and salt and mix well.
  4. Leave it in the low flame until the raw smell is lost.

It goes well with rice and any gravy.

 

Additional Tips

Thoran can be made with cabbage, carrots, long beans and even dry beans. While using dry beans (cheru payaru or van payaru), it should be soaked and cooked first.
